Project Overview

This was a design challenge I completed as part of Oracle's interview process.

Challenge: Oracle Field's issue tracking was a bit too rigid for the diverse world of construction.

Impact: This meant slower work, missed issues, and a lot of frustrated folks on site.

Solution: I proposed implementing in a tagging feature to make issue labeling flexible and fast.

Problem

The current system fails to support complex inspections beyond simple defects.

Fixed data fields cannot capture crucial details specific to different user types:

  • Safety Inspectors need severity ratings (low, medium, high)

  • Quality Inspectors require prioritization

  • Project Managers need cost impact information

Hypothesis

Introducing a tagging system will:

  • Provide flexibility to capture varied issue details

  • Improve data quality and relevance for different stakeholders

  • Enhance categorization and customization of issue types without compromising speed of capture

Goal

I aimed to design a flexible tagging feature to:

  • Allow users to create and assign custom labels to issues

  • Enable quick issue logging while supporting diverse information needs

  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of construction management across different inspection types
